Melted Crayon Art

I am a person who usually likes order and precision when I make things.

But I can get messy. And a little destructive.

This project is all about being imprecise and reveling in the beauty of patterns and colors that just happen on their own. It's also really easy and takes less than an hour. You just need some old crayons, a canvas or board, and a hair dryer. Maybe those crayons that are already kinda ruined from when they melted in the car?

I have to credit my cousin with the inspiration for these. When I saw her post some facebook pictures of these melted crayon art pieces she had made, I knew I had to try it myself. They just looked so beautiful and graphic.

Melted Crayon Art

Materials:

painting canvas or a board

crayons

hot glue gun

heat tool [a hair dryer works]

1. Remove the wrappers from the crayons. Arrange them in a row until you like the sequence of colors.

2. Hot glue them down in a line along the top edge of the canvas.

3. Use the heat tool to carefully melt the crayons so that the wax drips down the canvas. [If you're using a hair dryer, set it on the highest heat setting and the lowest blower setting]. Hold the heat tool far away from the crayons, as they will melt very fast and turn to an almost-water like liquid that will run very quickly off the canvas. You can manipulate the drips better if you melt them more slowly.

4. Let it cool and hang it up!
