Weekend Plans

Here are some of the things that are on my sewing brain this weekend.

I've ordered the Ooh La Leggings pattern from Papercut, and I am eagerly anticipating its arrival. I'm not sure exactly why I decided on paying more to wait longer for the paper pattern, but when I bought it it was really late at night and the last thing I felt like doing was putting together a PDF pattern. Oh well.

The reason I bought it is because I recently joined a gym [and I've actually been going!!!] so I wanted to make myself some workout pants. I bought these stretchy fabrics from Spandex World to make some. It's so hard to tell if you're making the right choices when you buy fabrics online, so for future reference the gray fabric is what I was looking for. It's a rayon/nylon ponte that's thick and really structured and just like these other workout pants from Target that I already have. The black fabric is a supplex, which feels kind of like a thicker bathing suit fabric, and it would probably betray panty lines galore. So I think I'll just use it for the side panels.

Also can we just take a moment and talk about Spandex World? They have spandexes beyond my wildest dreams. Will someone please make a bathing suit out of this HAMBURGER SPANDEX so I don't have to?? I have to admit, I might have actually put the hamburger spandex in my shopping cart at one point, and I may have had the intention of making hamburger side panels on my workout pants. Just think of the irony! [Luckily I waited for the light of day to make my final choices.]

Anyway, speaking of Papercut did you see that they're having a contest for their Anima Pant pattern? I'm a sucker for a contest so of course I had to get that one too. I think for the first rendition I'm going to use this thick snuggly knit from The Fabric Studio to make the knee length version.

I'll also be putting the final touches on the Colette Moneta Sewalong. It starts a week from Monday so there's still time to get fabric and join in!

Hootie has been 'helping' me.

I also planted some things recently, and the California Poppies have just come up and are growing like mad. I find myself going outside and staring at them multiple times a day, even though they look the same. Does anyone else do this?

What are you sewing this weekend?

  1. I'm also getting in on that Papercut competition. That first prize is really awesome! Like you, it's hard for me to say no to a competition and when a pattern discount is involved then it's even harder! I was debating on getting the leggings, but I might grab the pattern when I'm in LA next weekend. Wish you could come to our meetup! xo

  2. I love that you make repeated journeys outside to stare at your seedling! I do the same thing, endlessly. I even stare at the bare soil so that I can spot the sprout as soon as it starts to emerge.

  3. Yes, we check our veggie plants every day- it's amazing how much they can grow overnight or during the day. Looks like the cat is REALLY helping by holding your stuff down! lol

  4. I too have a fat feline sewing helper, she just loves sitting on patterns and expensive fabric! I've not been tempted to sew sportswear up until recently... The collective sewing hive-mind is getting to me! In the meantime I'm hoping to squeeze in some time to make my first Nettie. So glad to have found your blog! Cheers, Sarah :)
